Inspired by stories passed down through generations, this design honors the significance of the milpa, a powerful symbol of life and strength. According to the sacred Popol Vhu, our ancestors used corn to shape humanity—white for bones, yellow for muscles, black for eyes and hair, and red for blood. Xoloitzcuintles, much like corn, embody the living presence of our ancestors, reminding us of a time before borders divided our people.

This print brought to you by Revost, an artist based in Mexico City, depicts three transformations of Xolotl alongside the Xoloitzcuintle.
When the Teteo, or the group of ancestral spirits, gathered in the Mexika creation story of the fifth sun; they concluded that to nourish the sun so that he could move across the sky they needed to sacrifice themselves. When it came to Xolotl’s turn, he cowered and ran out of fear. To disguise himself Xolotl, the trickster spirit, transformed himself three times. First into a corn plant with two canes, then two maguey plants, and finally into an Axolotl, an animal that is half tadpole half salamander. In this final transformation, he was caught by his twin brother, Quetzalcoatl. There Xolotl was sacrificed and offered to the sun.
