Inspired by stories passed down through generations, this design honors the significance of the milpa, a powerful symbol of life and strength. According to the sacred Popol Vhu, our ancestors used corn to shape humanity—white for bones, yellow for muscles, black for eyes and hair, and red for blood. Xoloitzcuintles, much like corn, embody the living presence of our ancestors, reminding us of a time before borders divided our people.

And now a few words from our creative director...
"This campaign was a personal dedication from me to Ixim Ulew. Directly translated from the Maya Kaqchikel dialect Ixim Ulew means “Land of Corn” an indigenous name given to Guatemala. I grew up hearing stories about how milpa would grow tall and strong in the house my grandmother grew up in and how her mother tended to the milpa and the harvest. In accordance with the Popol Vhu a sacred text of oral traditions passed down to us by the Kiche Maya, we are told that our ancestral spirits used corn to create humanity. White corn was used for the bones, yellow corn for the muscles, black corn for the eyes and hair, and red corn for the blood. Corn much like Xoloitzcuintles serve as a reminder that ancestors exist and are living all around us! Preserving these crops, these Cosmovisions and Xoloitzcuintles is an act of resistance. Although inspiration for this project was directly taken from my GuateMaya ancestry these stories are not irrelevant to non-Guatemaya people or even to the Xoloitzcuintle community. Archeological digs have found Xoloitzcuintle remains well into Maya burial sites throughout Central America. Although they were not referred to specifically as Xoloitzcuintles, a dog of the spirit world also makes an appearance along side the Hero Twins in the Popol Vhu. Further proving the existence of intricate and elaborate trading systems that ran throughout the Americas. This was a special project for me not only because was I able to highlight my ancestry but also it serves as an allusion back to a time before man made borders separated our people."
